This is a pond skater. She is called Jayne. There is another one in our other small pond and he is called Christopher. Sometimes they get together to practise their Bolero routine.
Pond skaters use surface tension to float on the water. They have sensitive hairs on their legs and bodies and use these to detect prey that cause ripples on the pond surface.
You can see the little indentations it makes on the surface without breaking it.
