Hardknott Pass.
You can see what type of day it started like, the cloud layer and mistiness. This road is steep: 25 and 20% in places round bends. The road is single lane with passing places and bumpy in places. In the middle distance there is the remains of a Roman fort. Ravenglass on the coast was a Roman port and this road linked it to Ambleside. Pity the Romans staying at this fort and those making the journey to Ambleside! There was still a way to go to the top, but the views were spectacular. The voice in my head was saying, 'don't look down,' as it places it was a long way down. Can you imagine, each May a cycle challenge rides this and other LD passes. That is not for me.
My friend, and fellow Biddy, remembers travelling up this pass and how steep it was.
You can just see the coast through the haze.
