An Evening to Remember

On the eve of Remembrance Sunday we held an event that incorporated many aspects of Remembrance Sunday.
We had my lovely warden talked about her uncle who was the captain of the Scottish rugby team in 1914. The relatives of both the French and Scottish rugby captains of 1914 ( who both died in the war) reconnected in recent years, and their families were involved in presenting a trophy to the winning side in recent years, which was an interesting story to hear.

A chap at a British Legion meeting we attended a few months ago volunteered his wife to sing for us. I am so glad we said yes, as she was a remarkable operatic singer!

The Stranraer brass band played beautifully, and I was impressed at the young age of the trumpeter playing the infamously difficult Last Post.
A young police cadet read the ode, a parishioner read with his best Scottish accent the poem written by an Australian 'Flanders Fields'.
Even I got roped in with a refle tonight and blessing.

What a lovely evening.
