One For Sorrow

This year’s magpie chick, parked in a convenient spot among the trees and bushes hosting the nests of small birds. The parents rob the nests of eggs and chicks to feed their mewling offspring. Bereft yellowhammers, greenfinches, goldfinches and others go elsewhere to nest. I miss their colourful songs.
