Day #5 - Santa Cruz
Today was spent exploring the delightfully kitsch and quirky Santa Cruz, with its famous boardwalk and wharf, and the home of the ‘Banana Slugs’ from the UCSC - Go Slugs!
Out of season, the town was quiet and a lot of the attractions were massively scaled down, but the resident Californian Sea Lions never go out of season, and were in fine voice at the wharf. We spent a good while watching their antics.
There was an O’Neill sponsored surf competition taking place close to the Surfing Museum, and the skills on show were quite incredible.
After a stunning sunset we reluctantly left this odd little place and made the short journey down to Monterey which will be our base for the next two nights.
