WHAT AN UNFORTUNATE NAME!
I thought it sounded quite noisy this morning before I got up and looking out of our bedroom window, the traffic was nose-to-tail on the opposite side of the road. My immediate thought was that there must have been an accident on the dual carriageway near to us, and that the traffic had had to divert and Mr. HCB confirmed that was the case after looking at the website for our local newspaper. He told me later that someone had died in the accident, so thinking of the family of the person killed and the emergency services that attended and those who clear up after the accident. I don’t think we realise how much trauma these people have to deal with - and they need our support and prayers.
We went out to visit our friends, David and Louise, this morning for coffee and cake - and to meet David’s Mother, who looks amazing at 94 years of age. She is a wonderful Christian lady and we always enjoy seeing her when she visits - she lives with another son in North Wales, and often comes to Swindon, to stay with David, one of her other sons and his wife, Louise. We hadn’t seen any of them for quite sometime, so it was good to catch up with them and what is happening in their lives.
We were looking forward to having our hair cut today - by a new hairdresser - but sadly she is unable to come due to unforeseen personal circumstances, so guess we will be looking like shaggy dogs for a while longer!
When we got home, Mr. HCB told me that he had found the label for the lovely little flowers blooming in our pond - they have a very unfortunate name - “Iris Pseudacorus Bastardii” - apparently, the name “Iris” is the Greek name for rainbow but despite making an exhaustive search to find out what the other names mean, I am none the wiser! This bog or pond plant has beautiful bright green foliage and delicate pale pink creamy flowers, that are almost translucent. Its flowering time is apparently from June to August, but with the hot summer and then recent rain, it is still flowering now, so I wanted to share it with you. We still have quite a lot of flowers blooming in the garden, so we are enjoying seeing a second flush of these after the very hot weather in the summer.
I need to go and do some shopping, but then have a book to read about Baptism entitled “Making a Splash” as I have been asked to be part of a group preparing those who want to be baptised in our Church by full immersion baptism, prior to becoming full and active members of the Church, so I think an afternoon with my feet up and reading this book sounds like a good idea.
