The little machine that could

Today I will begin cracking all the pecans that I picked. I spread them out on the screened porch rug to dry out since they were picked after a rain and had damp shells. Drying out helps them to crack better.

This nut cracker was my Dad’s. He had friends who gave him bags of pecans so he invested in a real cracker (versus the hand held thing). He would crack and my Mom and I would pick. Sometimes we would have whole pecans which was easier than picking out pieces.

I hope I can finesse my cracking skills to get whole pecans. This job will be very time consuming. Probably more than one day and it may require loud music!
