Tredegar House

As we are visiting Wales for the first time, we also want to make use of our National Trust card. So we arrived at Tredegar House at the right moment - just when it started to rain.

Described as "one of the architectural wonders of Wales and one of the most significant late 17th-century houses in the whole of the British Isles" we learned quite a lot about its history. Very rich family for centuries, then all spent within two generations by 1951. The building was sold and became a convent school by the catholic church. Newport City council bought it 1974 and only since 2012 the NT has a lease on it.

We enjoyed the visit very much. Not just because of the mansion, but also the way it was presented, with less rules (photographs allowed, some hands-on displays, ...) and the very friendly staff enjoing their second season there.

Even if taking pictures inside was allowed, the blip favourite is the view out of one of the rooms in the first floor.
