Grey Plover #101
A much better day as we didn't see any rain today :)
We headed over to Hauxley Nature Reserve in bright sunshine, but by the time we got there it had really clouded over. We walked around the reserve which has a few hides but didn't see much in range or very unusual. I did take a few shots of the lovely tree sparrows, but I didn't like them at all. After a delicious sandwich and a cream scone (well, we are on holiday) we sat in the car deciding what to do with the remaining couple of hours of daylight. Just as we were about to leave, I spotted a red squirrel come down to the feeder in the car park. It didn't stay for long, but I managed a few shots. Unfortunately, there was a strap from a wildlife camera in the way which was annoying - it's in extras anyway.
Boulmer was our next stop on the way home as the tide was out and it's a beach full of seaweed and rocks - great for birds :)
This is where we found this lovely grey plover. I always think they are gorgeous looking birds.
Once the light had almost disappeared, we popped up to Stag Rocks for a last look where we saw a red throated diver, more purple sandpipers and a raft of scoters in the distant (apparently - I'd have never known what they were if it wasn't for another birder who had a scope!)
