Signs Of Age

The stump of a walnut tree which wasn't that old, but had suddenly died. The rings of the stump are beginning to separate as it deteriorates producing an interesting pattern of repeating lines and a nice bit of colour. The concentric circles, of course, count the years the tree was alive. So in two ways the image depicts the signs of its age.

I saw the shape of a letter A in the image, which could well have just been marks from the saw. I thought it of interest and brought it out a touch with a bit of dodging. My initial title was 'A Circle', but thought better of it.
