Birks
A trip down the Spey to walk along the river and then through the birks to Grantown where we found a bakery and cafe. Toasted tea cake and jam! The town museum was closed though - reopens in April. The SK breathed a sigh of relief. Other sighs are available, I’m sure.
Much later, ensconced as we were in the dining room of the Boat Hotel, K caught sight of worrying news on the news channel. Missiles landing in Poland. We looked at each other. That’s not good, I shrewdly commented. We’re probably in the best place possible, in the middle of the Highlands. Not sure, said P in all seriousness, there’s a railway line right beside the hotel. We looked at her. It’s a railway preservation society track and the next train will be the Santa Special. If that's a target we’re certainly doomed.
