Everest

Busy old working day, but the evening brought some light relief in the form of an enjoyable performance from the Public Service Broadcasting gig at The Caves. Their music is like being hit by a giant nostalgia stick, it's as if they've taken the hauntology and curator craze to it's stereovision populist conclusion. Whereas someone like Boards of Canada use samples and forgotten melodies lightly, the samples in this set are a far blunter instrument, more akin to those used by Avalanches. I was surprised that the tunes didn't wear thin given their lack of subtlety, but they would definitely have benefited from live instrumentation and variation in the melodies, when they introduce a live trumpeter on Everest it was the undoubted highlight of the set.
