When someone forgot the piano
Choir practice weekend. Florence normally does quite quirky warm-up exercises, normally in the car park and many not involving singing. Today it was raining so we did them indoors. Eventually Florence turned expectantly to the custodian of the electric piano. "Oh merde!" said Bernard. "I've left it at home."
So while he drove back to fetch it, we sat in two concentric circles and sang Franck's Tantum ergo, which we know by heart. Many of us couldn't see Florence because she was standing behind us. But that was partly the point -- we had to look at the people who could see her, and listen to each other. We also did an amusing exercise where we passed notes round the circle. After three circuits, all the right notes arrived back, "but not necessarily in the right order." It was fun.
Chillier today; the temperature had dropped to single digits when I set off home.
