Skye - Day 5 - The Quiraing
Today is our last full day on Skye. The last couple of days, the weather forecasts for this day went from full rain to mostly sunny and everything in between. We decided yesterday we were going for a sunrise shoot at the Quiraing, hoping for the best. Well, we got quite a good sunrise! I must say I like this shot looking in the other direction than the usual shot of the landslip. The latter I did of course make and can be seen as an extra. The moment the sun actually made an appearance was also quite good and I used a telephoto lens to capture the layers of the landscape. There's also an extra for this. After the morning shoot, we visited the nearby Fairy Glen. Quite a surprising location to visit, but I didn't take a lot of photos there.
After lunch (in the car for a change), we drove to Neist Point. The idea was to capture this location around sunset, but unfortunately the weather forecast was right about one aspect: increasing winds as the day progressed. It was almost impossible to walk around in the strong wind, let alone putting the camera on a tripod and do a landscape photo shoot. I ended up setting the legs of the tripod really wide and low and sitting down to do the shooting. Even then, the camera was shaking a lot and I just had to increase the ISO to get a fast enough shutter speed to get sharp images. Quite a struggle and such a contrast to our morning shoot at the Quiraing!
We stopped shooting way before sunset, as the wind was only increasing. By the time we got back to the cottage, it started raining. Time for dinner and some post processing. Tomorrow we will leave early and drive back to Inverness...
