Quod oculus meus videt

(Not) the Leonids

Frustratingly, the forecast clear skies didn't develop.  I still headed up onto the Chase as the darkest place in the area, but despite waiting the best I got were a couple of small gaps in the light cloud that persisted.  Still it was good to try.

What surprised me was the activity at 6 'o' clock in the morning.  They included four runners, in two pairs with bright torches who seemed to be using GPS to run across the area.  I got the impression it was some form of trial, but for the life of me I didn't know what.  As I took this photograph a car drove down the track I'd parked on, turned at the bottom and returned without stopping.  I noted the registration number and saw the car again later doing something similar at another car park.  I wasn't going to ask.  I'm afraid the Chase does have something of a reputation for nocturnal activity!

Spent much of the morning extracting our dishwasher from its position in the kitchen.  Sadly, it has stopped working properly so I got it ready for the replacement coming tomorrow.

Then an afternoon watching the rugby internationals.  Wales can be sublime in their play on occasions but they were stung by a tenacious Georgian team who stayed in the game and came out as winners by one point.  THen a crazy final 10 minutes of the England-New Zealand game with the home team scoring 19 unanswered points to draw the game.
