Film Night
What a fun evening we've had at the Astoria Centre in Corstorphine! We were last there in June to hear John Kitchen give the Inauguration Recital of the newly-restored 2/4 Ingram Organ that had been rescued from the Astoria cinema. It is the smallest theatre organ in the UK and the last of its type in the world.
Tonight, under the auspices of The Corstorphine Trust, we were provided with a goody-bag as we entered (containing sweeties and a bottle of juice for the interval) then were entertained with a few period pieces of music before the main event - the silent film 'The Cameraman', starring Buster Keaton and Marceline Day, accompanied by organist Donald MacKenzie, who regards playing for silent films as a hobby to his 'day job' of concert organist.
We first 'met' this organ on Doors Open Day in 2019, when the instrument was still in several pieces with a grand ambition to be played as intended. Tonight we saw and heard that ambition realised.
