Experimenting

The other day I posted some of my Christmas cactus photos on FB. A friend of mine asked if I had ever pollinated my flowers. Nope, can't say I have. We had a good conversation and after a bit of googling it seemed pretty straight forward.
The point of it all is for the cactus to produce berries at the end where the flowers were and then one can gather them and get the seeds and start your own little Christmas cactuses. It sounds fun.
So I got some pollen from the little anthers from one color of cactus that I have and rubbed it all over the sticky pink tip of the stigma on one of my other color cactus. You can see the pollen grains on the stigma here in this photo.
I have a lot more flowers to bloom so I'll keep trying this in the hopes that a few take. I'm sure I will show you all if I'm successful :-) I wonder what the cross pollination will produce??
