Wild flower quandary

One of the interesting things about taking over the old field is seeing what appears. The number of daffodil clumps was a pleasant surprise - at least 50 of them - although not all had flower heads. There's also an interesting clump of grass shooting up that we have yet to identify. And we were surprised to discover a solitary little oak tree with no apparent relatives nearby. This bright green specimen has developed strong growth over the last few weeks and is now almost a 3' high bush (you can see it just in front of the chestnut tree here). We assumed it was a weed but wondered what it was. Now it has produced rather attractive little flowers and our plant identifier confirms it is 'wild flower' called garlic mustard. A quick web search revealed that it can be invasive if left to seed. So, it and a near neighbour will be getting the uprooting treatment in the next few days. But, for now, we can enjoy the flowers while the field looks just a little barren.

Today's forecast rain didn't really come to anything - the wind seemed to hold it at bay!
