Petals to go
A couple of blips ago I illustrated the surprising yucca flower that has bloomed in our wilderness. I mentioned that it was edible and indeed it is.
Following advice on the net (where else?) I picked six individual flowers from the stalk and stripped off the petals which I boiled for a few minutes to remove any bitterness. They turned green and emerged soft and limp rather like cooked lettuce. I incorporated this into an omelette along with a few mushrooms and some crow garlic (similar to chives).
I can report that it was delicious if not a big hitter of an ingredient.
Next time I shall stuff the flowers as in this recipe.
