Too much musing
Yes, a day malingering. Just a wee bit jeely and ice cream, maw, as Oor Wullie used to say. I expected Heinz cream of chicken, but my word, yes, the M&S stuff is highly recommended if tinned soup is your bag. Och, I lounged and kept warm and watched some footy. The Germans came unstuck against Japan, as did Argentina the day before against the Saudis. That’s what we want.
But sad news that Wilko Johnson had finally passed away. I went to see him on the final gig of his final tour, in Glasgow. He’d been given nine months to live. And then, he lived on! I only saw him once with the Feelgoods - back in September '76 at the Usher Hall, though I saw him many times after that with his underwhelming own band, the Solid Senders. But those four Dr Feelgood albums he was on - surely a canon (oh yes) to rival any other band's. Canonical.
And the small matter of the Supreme Court judgement about the Scottish Parliament’s powers (or lack thereof) to fiddle with its own constitution. Even a layperson’s reading of the '98 Act could tell you that thems were the rules. In udder words, as Nicola said post-ruling, it’s now kicked back to the political world: "Fundamentally, our job today is the same as it was yesterday. It is to persuade a majority of the Scottish people of the fact that independence is the best future for Scotland.” She knows, I suspect, that the electorate is hopelessly and evenly split on it and that only a demonstrable majority will bring about the change that she wants.
