Before the rain we managed a walk along the coast from Dirleton and Yellowcraig to North Berwick passing the island of The Lamb just offshore.  It is only about 100 metres by 50 metres and uninhabited apart from hundreds of sea birds and yet earlier this year its owner wanted it to be declared the Republic of Lamb with its own flag and constitution.  The illusionist Uri Geller (the spoon spender) bought it for £30,000 in 2009 claiming that it is a very important place lying on a major ley line with a hoard of ancient Egyptian treasure hidden there but so far he has been unable to find it.   He is offering citizenship of Lamb for a bargain $1 with the profits going to a charity for children with heart conditions.  Meanwhile a fishing boat was setting out its nets which can just be seen behind and it’s very unlikely that the fishermen will ever see a Republican flag flying on the island.
