Joan Mitchell

Weirdly, this same picture was chosen by the Times reviewer in today’s article about her, but my selection was entirely independent. It’s from a show of her late work at Zwirner Gallery. An Abstract Expressionist, Mitchell was a really good 20th-century artist, but few Europeans seem to have heard of her. (Not to be confused with Joni Mitchell, the singer-songwriter.)
