Down to the Coast

Canberrans often say they are going 'down to the coast' for the weekend. As we have done. We're at Bermagui, a small town that looks across the bay to an impressive mountain named Mt Dromedary by Captain Cook when he sailed by in April 1770. When we first started visiting here 40 years ago it was always called by that name. But over the years there was a shift to calling it by its traditional Indigenous name of Gulaga. Last year the name was officially changed to Gulaga / Mt Dromedary. Here it is seen in the distance, behind the fishing boat harbour at Bermagui.
