Cumbrian Village

After all the exertions of the past few weeks, I finally hit the wall today. I went back to bed after breakfast and didn’t get up until after lunch, and I stayed in my dressing gown for the rest of the day. Experience tells me I will be right as rain tomorrow, so I just have to go with the flow until my batteries are fully re-charged.

This counted cross stitch picture hangs on the wall in my craft room, and is one of many embroidered by my mother in her latter years. It’s by Rose Swalwell in her "Village England" series, and is entitled Cumbrian Village. The handwritten instructions by Rose indicate that the picture is a composite of many iconic Cumbrian items – Herdwick sheep, dry stone walls, circular chimney stacks, lead-miners’ cottages, spinning galleries and stone bridges among them. The hills in the background are from the Northern Fells; Causey Pike, Barrow and Grisedale Pike.

Even though I haven’t been able to visit the Lake District for a while, I can still admire its beauty from the comfort of my craft room, thanks to my lovely Mum!
