Begonias and Moths
A Begonia flowering outside in the last week in November. What an unusual Autumn this has been.
Spent this afternoon at a meeting with 50+ moth enthusiasts. We had five good speakers.
In the UK we have 59 species of Butterflies.
But we have 2,500 + species of Moths 1,000 + of these are Macro (large) moths and 1500 are Micro moths. Although there are some moths that fly in the day the vast majority fly in the night.
They are attracted to light and we have a number of friends who put out moth traps every night from March to October.
Many people think moths are dull brown creatures. But that is far from the truth. There a large numbers which have beautiful patterns and colours.
It is an absorbing hobby. Efforts are being made locally to introduce the beauty and fascination of moths to primary school children.
My extra shows just one of the scores of moths which were shown on the screen at our meeting.
