All beat up and no place to go.

This was one of the casualties of our recent decorating madness. Very lovely, but very fragile and now broken. I have been wondering if I should try opening it up for a while. Would let me shoot one of those ever so popular photographs - you know the ones that are supposed to demonstrate golden sections or something like that? Any idea what this is - or any thoughts on how to go about opening it?
