End of season

The Walled Garden at Shugborough was looking a little dismal this morning.

All the beds have been cleared ready for next year’s planting. Some of the plants are skeletal and dramatic but in other areas it’s just carefully prepared soil.

If you look just near the centre of the photo you can see three rather sad Christmas trees.

In my extra you can see the progress they’ve made with the other half of the garden area. Staffordshire County Council and the National Trust have worked with an archaeologist to clear and map what was originally there. It will be interesting to see what the next step will entail.

We didn’t have the sun they had suggested might appear, but it is November and at least it wasn’t pouring, yet…..
