Serenity
There is something fundamentally calming about a broad horizontal span of sea, especially when it is in a calm mood. This is an Intentional Camera Movement image of the waves reaching Tūmai Beach at dawn. The dark shape is a sandspit that separates the sea and beach from Te Hakapupu (Pleasant River) estuary.
The spit is a nature reserve, covered mainly by introduced marram grass. Last week a sweep with binoculars from our house spied 14 heads of Canada geese sitting on nests, but probably there were more. We are looking forward to the gosling creches’ swimming on the estuary in the coming weeks, usually with one parent in the lead and the other taking up the rear.
