Office

To the office by 2pm after a morning working at home. I sat in the foyer cafe with some colleagues for a while, catching-up.

About 5pm we headed out to Bill’s in Soho for a small team gathering. This little group has been here a few times over the past 18 months because it‘s big and was nicely spaced out in COVID times. As always we had a lovely evening. The summer set meals were advertised on the main menu and I am glad I checked that it was, really, a separate menu otherwise we might have been mislead. The salted caramel espresso martini after dinner was more salt and espresso martini with almost no caramel flavour. Mark P was on the regular version which I think was better. We always split the bill but I felt guilty as Louise had only had two ginger beers. £39 each was reasonable.

Trying to find somewhere afterwards proved tricky. We ended up outside at the Ham Yard Hotel but the bar prices were really steep. We stuck to the cheap red which the waiter mistakenly tried to chill. His plastic ice bucket-bag leaked all over our table. It was quite poor. But we did get through two bottles before some people left and the rest of us went to a nearby pub - which, by now, was quiet and had space - where a bottle of red cost the same as a glass of the one we had been drinking. A cheaper way to end the day.
