South Africa

South Africa is one of the far-flung places that Lorna Lloyd mentions in her Diary of the war (previously blipped in full in the LornaL journal, and now available as a podcast series with Lorna's great-great niece playing her great-great aunt). We had been wondering if we would ever manage to post blipper crowd-source shots to represent this country, so were delighted when jonmountjoy sent this one over to us today - thank you! 

Lorna mentions South Africa twice in her war diary. The first entry is to the country in general on 7th September 1939. You can listen to the narrated version of this diary entry in Episode 1 of our podcast series.

In the second on 11th November 1939, Lorna refers to Mafeking (now Mafekeng). Popping this specific place name into the search box on Blipfoto does not give us much hope of finding a blipper who has a suitable photo to share, but perhaps we could use a shot of a Mafeking Street in the UK, of which there are several, e.g. in Brighton, Gateshead, Glasgow, Harrogate, Nottingham, Stoke-on-Trent, Sunderland, and Wishaw? We wait with fingers crossed.
