Going dutch

Filled up my car today and the elderly gentleman in front of me admired my car and asked if I was happy with it, I said yes, very much so, this was enough German for him to hear a non native accent leading him to comment,
“oh, you’re from the Netherlands”,
“No, from England”,
“Really?”…
He was convinced my non German accent was Dutch.
