Bloomin' Elliott

meet Ebenezer Elliott, (17 March, 1781 - 1 Dec 1849), an English poet and an owner of an iron foundry in Sheffield.

He campaigned strongly against the Corn Laws, which put a tax on corn and made bread more expensive. Elliott's poetry on the Corn Laws resulted in his nickname of the "Paupers' Poet" or the "Corn-Law Rhymer".

He wrote over 315 poems in his lifetime. Some of which were adapted to popular tunes and were sung at the start of political rallies. (The People's Anthem -- Save The People)

After Elliott's death £600 was raised to pay for his statue. It shows Elliott on one of his favourite rocks in the Rivelin Valley, Sheffield. The statue was originally situated in Sheffiled Market Place and was moved to Weston Park in 1874-75.

The People's Anthem

When wilt thou save the people?
Oh, God of mercy! when?
Not kings and lords, but nations!
Not thrones and crowns, nut men!
Flowers of thy heart, oh God, are they!
Let them not pass, like weeds, away!
Their heritage a sunless day!
God! save the people!

Mimi's mundane life:

2 weeks to go!!! til I go home to the land of my birth..
And the countdown begins.. Not long now.. Although I've packed since two weeks ago, who says I'm excited, not me!
Had to do laundry today, and loads of ironing I remembered the excess pile I hid a few days ago.. Well, I did manage half of them (to be continued tomorrow), tidied the house up, cooked dinner and now ready to go to bed..But first, blip..

So you get E. Elliott with the cherry blossoms..

As always, a massive thank you everyone for all the wonderful reactions I got for yesterday's entry -- I promise you, it was indeed taken in UK! LOL
