Petershill Reserve
Petershill was a limestone quarry in the 18th Century, converted to reservoirs in the 19th Century and drained in 1986. It now includes areas of species-rich grassland, scrub and wetland, and is also an important geological site. It was notified as part of a larger Site of Scientific Special Interest in 1976 and designated as a Regionally Important Geological Site in 1999.
Hubby and I went for a walk here today. I picked up a leaflet about the 5.4 ha site when I was at Beecraigs the other day. Unfortunately, although it's supposed to have lots of flora and fauna of interest, we didn't see much - possibly a bit early for it considering the weather we've had lately! We did disturb a heron as we arrived but nothing much else. I did spot this plant, possibly a Nymphoides Pelata (I'm sure one of you out there will know!) growing in nothing more than a glorified puddle. Will definitely go back later in the summer though.
