Taking the cure

Just back from a mega trip to County Limerick with our pals Robert and Finola, yes on a well trip. The weather was unbelievable - yesterday full on sunshine and today just grey but fantastic after all the wild weather we had had. 17 holy wells were visited! Each was pretty wonderful in its own way for I was quite selective in which we should visit. We have tramped across a fair number of exceptionally muddy fields and farmyards, climbed to the top of hill with astounding views out to County Clare , fought our way through dense woodland and had some interesting conversations with locals. Thankfully the hotel was very comfy and accommodating and there was a small swimming pool which was a lovely way to unwind.
Two wells on our way back today. This is St Bernard's Well. The notice at the entrance was not very welcoming but hey, surely a pandemic is just the time to visit a holy well! The well was massive and an extraordinary colour, percolating vigorously. Here is Finola getting ready to dab her dodgy knee with some holy water. The second well was dedicated to St James and involved a very muddy tramp across fields but was delightful. And a mink was spotted.
Beyond wrecked, now - it's baked potatoes and a glass of wine, and I shall catch up tomorrow.
