We were fortunate to avoid the thick fog that obscured the bridges further up the Forth and the Fife coast while we enjoyed blue sky.  The sun had melted the thick frost but it was not enough to melt the ice covering one of the shallow ponds at Levenhall bird reserve so most of the birds were roosting around the other ponds.  There were mainly ducks on the pond nearest the sea with large numbers of lapwings congregating around the adjacent pond.  Work was going on to develop the last two lagoons which will make the area even more attractive to the many birds which visit each year.
