and today shining on the Barracks and the marshes. This was the castle hill and a castle topped it since the twelfth century. The original town was sited here too. However, in 1719 the Barracks were built to replace the old castle and was used in the Jacobite wars. It was partially destroyed in 1746 and has stayed in this state since! The Wolf of Badenoch, Alexander Stewart is reputed to have died here as he played chess with the devil in the fourteenth century.
Today the marshes were home to Whooper Swans and Greylag and Pinkfooted geese.
