Fairfield Moravian Settlement

The over-used expression "a hidden gem" is certainly true of the Moravian Settlement in Fairfield, part of Droylsden in East Manchester.  It was built as a self-contained village for a community of religious refugees from Moravia, in what is now the Czech Republic, in 1785.  It is still a very well-maintained and thriving community, overlooked by visitors as it has no museum or visitor attraction.  Lots to see and photograph.

This was almost the conclusion of today's walk with Andy, Chris and Martin, along with Bonnie and Bruce, starting in the Mayfield area near Piccadilly Station, going through the newly-opened park, via the Etihad Campus and along the Ashton Canal, which has some fine old bridges and locks as well as autumn colour, clinging-on into December.
