A visit with a difference - and Christmas lunch

We had a splendid day out with our local Arts Society. Our trips organiser has the gift of finding unusual and fascinating places you can’t normally visit. Today was one of those.

Clawson Old Manor, between Nottingham and Leicester is a 400 year old listed building that the owners have rescued and are in the process of restoring.

The owner, who is also the clergyman for the nearby church, and his wife, showed us round with great pride and devotion. They are both in costume as they welcomed us.

It sounds as though he’s done huge amounts of the restoring work himself and his tales of repairing and renewing the roof were just amazing.

The house is packed full of so many old odds and ends, regularly interspersed with TVs and computer screens and assorted dvds.

They’ve learned so much about the history of the house, with its many additions, amendments and experiments. A fascinating, but chilly day.

We followed this fascinating visit with our Christmas lunch.

A lovely day, with great company.
