Squeezebelly Lane
Kingsbridge in South Devon is a town that I sometimes pass through but rarely stop to visit. Today we made an exception. First impressions were of a rather staid, insular and conservative town. Having said that, the town has many attractions. There is a small traditional cinema in the main street, which I am told has 3 screens, a peaceful community garden and a museum (closed until March). It also has squeezebelly Lane. I found this willing victim to give an idea of scale, and yes he did make it all the way through! On this visit to the town and a previous one many years ago, I did not find it a naturally welcoming place. However, I met a lovely lady from Barcelona in a gallery exhibiting work by local artists. Her own work included a large black and white drawing of a whale and it's calf, which she told me was inspired by her own expreience of pregnancy. I also have to pay credit to the landlord of the Sven Stars who came across as a bit of a rough diamond, but made us feel very welcome.
