If I were king....

Evan: I feel like I’m a king sitting on a throne in this pillow-fort. If I really were a king, I would have a huge garden with tomatoes for everybody, as many as they ever want. I could eat a bowlful of them right now. And nobody would live in a tent unless they wanted to go camping. I would make sure everybody had a place to live that was warm and dry.

That came with no prompting from me, and I was able to provide him with a bowlful of tomatoes with salt, no dressing, the way he likes them.

He doesn’t know—nobody knows yet, but those who were involved—last night I was made a Board member of Sisters of the Road, which is in massive transition, searching for a new building and a better way to advocate for unhoused people and for low-income housing in a city that has thousands of “luxury” apartments sitting empty.

This comes at a time when Portland’s government (with no one but JoAnn Hardesty opposed, and she’ll be out of office in January) is committed to spending $27 million on massive internment camps for houseless people, instead of devoting that money to housing. No better time for me to serve on the Board of an organization that fights City Hall.
