Wash inside out?

I was checking labels, mainly for temperature requirements, on unfamiliar items about to go in the washing machine when I noticed the instruction to wash inside out on this place mat. It's clearly not a "hand wash" item, has only 2 surfaces so I remain puzzled as to how this can be achieved. It's silly enough for today
