Cemetery, Santuario do Oropa

After a lovely breakfast with our four friends, we set off to explore the grounds. The cemetery was very interesting due the architecture of the buildings that hold the coffins, most were from the 1800s. Hidden behind were catacombs. We also visited the 12 chapels up the hillside depicting the Virgin Mary’s life, although you couldn’t go in them. The snow made everywhere very atmospheric.

After coffee we took the bus down the mountain to Biella and spent a few hours wandering around the streets in the rain. The cathedral was interesting especially as the Black Madonna that is normally at Opora is based there at the moment.
