Finally the fairground has opened so I went with my gang to look at the pretty lights, none of us went on any of the rides. I think the big wheel has been hired by the council from an outfit called "City View" and does not belong to Thurstons. There's a fairly convincing jolly Santa in a sleigh and a maze made out of Xmas trees. Entry costs a pound and that gets you a pound off a ride on the big wheel. No candy floss, no goldfish, no prizes, none of the other stuff that goes hand-in-hand with fairgrounds. There isn't even a carousel with ostriches!
