Woodburner
It's delightful to come down on a dark, cold, foggy morning and find that MrHCB has coaxed the wood-burner back into life. Like a lot of people we are trying to do without our central heating, so it's lucky that we live in the middle of a wood with seemingly unlimited fallen branches. MrHCB keeps warm by chopping them into logs and stacking them in the wood-store so that they will be dry when we use them in 2 years time.
The wood-burner keeps the kitchen/breakfast room at about 21ºC and enough warmth wafts upstairs to keep the bedroom at about 15ºC. We are pleased we installed a lot of insulation when we renovated the house 5 years ago. So different from the house in which I grew up. The only source of heating was a single open coal fire, which also heated the water. We had to dust and mop every day because of the coal soot. And the house had no insulation worth mentioning, so the bedroom windows stayed iced up on the inside 24 hours a day in the Winter. I count my blessings!
