Daftie with the trolley
daftie A daftie is a foolish person: Jeannie, did you no look where you were going with the trolley, ye wee daftie?!
Another beautiful day so we headed to the coast again, but closer to home this time. We took the train to Seaford and spent a lovely day in the sun walking the coastal paths. Great white cliffs around there, and lots of wild flowers and butterflies. We visited the Seaford museum in the Martell Tower and discovered that the shingle beach is relatively new! When the harbour was built at Newhaven, it changed the currents in the area, which in turn washed away the beach from Seaford. So, an ambitious plan was hatched to replenish the beach with huge rocks from Spain and one million tonnes of shingle from an offshore bank. Amazing.
We walked west past the ruins of a mill and a hospital, then spotted this derelict trolley with a couple of others further down the coast at Newhaven, where we caught our train back.
