Luncheon
Today the Monday Men had their Christmas lunch.
I’m chairman. We cut village green and churchyard grass on a particular day. We tidy. Blow and collect leaves. Almost all of us are retired. One of us - the youngest by several decades - has learning difficulties and I tend to look after him to make sure he doesn’t have an accident.
We are appreciated by most people. Most not all - oddly. But you can’t please everyone and we don’t try to. We had donations amounting to £330 for the lunch. We met at the Battlesteads Inn who went the extra mile for us on cost. And the food was fabulous.
Each year we invite the international musician Kathryn Tickell to join us. She is a local girl. Her dad is a Monday Man. She usually stays for lunch as our guest. She then plays the Northumbrian pipes and fiddle. We give her flowers. But she had another engagement today so came as we gathered and played three or four fabulous pieces before leaving.
I’m sorry this photo isn’t too good. I didn’t capture a happy expression. She was in fact very happy.
