Riverside Country Park

This countryside park is between Rainham and Gillingham in Kent at the estuary of the river Medway.  It is a vast area of salt marsh and mudflats.  A great place for smugglers back in the day too.  This is one of the barges (not used for smuggling) that are dotted around.  There is a small dock here too, Rainham East Dock  I have photographed this barge before  but not in this light. There is a path that links to Horrid Hill. Nobody is sure how it got that name, but prison hulks were moored close by and it is thought that was the reason for the name.  There are ruins of a small cement works where conditions were equally horrific, so take your pick.
In the background is the Isle of Grain.  This was where the oil fired power station was and has since been demolished.  It has been replaced by a power station where blends of natural gas and hydrogen are being assessed.
The extra is another view of the mudflats, with a storm over part of London.
