Head in the wall

We were talking to a local bookshop owner this afternoon about all things ancient and he suddenly asked if we’d like to see the heads in his cellar! Well, if I’d been on my own I might have thought twice about it, but in the company of Mr DA and Hector I felt it was low risk. Anyway, it turned out to be two carved stone heads, which were used in the past as a form of magical house (and church) protection. One is believed to be Medieval, the other (pictured) Romano-British/Celtic. They were obviously quite superstitious in this particular building as there are also fossils built into the walls. My kind of place!
