Wellies!

It can get wet when I walk my mother-in-law's dog at the Hippodrome, so I wear wellies in winter. They've cut the grass recently and as you can see my wellies have acquired a green coat! As you can imagine the dog also comes home covered in a green layer too, and you should hear his mummy! He loves it at the Hippodrome though, and he's forgiven once cleaned up.

Although called Wellington boots in English, they are in fact the invention of an American living in France, and though this pair wasn't made in France (Portugal), Aigle still make wellies in France to this day. The Duke of Wellington make a kind of leather boot fashionable, but the rubber boots we know today we created by Hiram Hutchinson using the new Goodyear vulcanisation process in the 1850s.
