Wonderland
The Muse and its Creation.
Art, Music and Drama. The staff of life. A day immersed in student Art - the entire department was a busy busy bee hive of action. AP portfolio submission day for some, and mucho-grading for all. Pictured here is Selin's 'Altered Book' which was her major work for the latest unit that I am grading and which she entered for the competition on 24th April. Everyone loves 'Alice' and this adaptation of the book, with its pull out "Wonderland" at the back (using Hearts playing cards) is both whimsical and enchanting.
The Tragedy and Transformation.
Meanwhile, at the other end of the school, the music department celebrated the memory of Ferruh Keresteci - a Grade 11 student and wonderful drummer who passed away in 2007 aged 17. I was very happy to make this year's presentation of the annual award in Ferruh's name at our Friday assembly to one of our most talented seniors, Ogul, for his contribution to music at school during his five years here. Beautiful violinist. Cemre, jazz singer extraordinaire was co-recipient of this award but was absent from school today. Nevertheless, when I announced Ogul and Cemre as this year's Ferruh award recipients the whole theatre rocked in supportive appreciation.
The Final word and Performance.
Finally, tonight is the fourth performance of the Greek Tragedy and although I am not attending, I know that they have a capacity audience in the amphitheater tonight. How wonderful.
